SHORE-TO-HELP

Mission Statement

SHORE-TO-HELP is a New Jersey Shore based organization working to raise funds for local individuals or charities in need. Whether a needy family or a cause on a greater scale, we strive to monetarily help ease the burden wherever it is needed.

Due to the devastation of Hurricane Sandy and the toll it has placed on so many local families, SHORE-TO-HELP's current focus is to help those families impacted by the storm. All families affected by the storm can contact SHORE-TO-HELP through our website. Please identify your location and how you were impacted by the storm in your email. Our goal is to help local families through this time.

Our group began meeting in November 2007 as a small number of community members organizing a Thanksgiving Day football game. What started as an innocent way to have fun with friends on a day otherwise reserved for family quickly turned into a real event!  In 2009 we had gone from 20 players to around 50 players across four teams.  In addition to the players on the field, we built a large following within the local communities and our first Turkey Bowl “Tail-gate” was organized by the player’s wives.  It was at this time that we realized we had an opportunity to raise money for those in need in our local communities.

2009 was the first year we introduced a fund-raising component to our event. Since this process was new to use our fund-raising efforts were limited. In 2009 we raised $500 for the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The goal for the group was to build upon the previous year so in 2010 we aimed higher and raised $8,500 for the Food Bank.  At the same time we introduced our canned food drive sponsored by the children in our community. In 2011 the event blossomed to over 80 players with another 250 people on the sidelines and we had true organization around our “little” game.  That year wee sponsored the Family and Children Services of Monmouth County (www.fcsmonmouth.org) and were able to raise over $19,000 for the FCS.

It was at this point that we felt it our responsibility to officially recognize the participation and support of our group and we applied for registration as an official 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization… SHORE-TO-HELP!!

• Kenneth L. Shaw Jr.

  President

  Kenneth Shaw resides in Monmouth Beach, NJ with his wife Danielle and their three children, Trey, Paige and Peyton.  Kenny and his wife were both born and raised in Monmouth County NJ. Kenny now is the President of K. Shaw Construction in Monmouth Beach, NJ.

• Mark Gardner

  Vice President

  Mark Gardner resides in Monmouth Beach, NJ with his wife Sandi and their three children, Riley, Lilly and Summer.  Mark was born and raised in Malverne, NY while Sandi is from Spring Lake, NJ. Mark is a graduate of Villanova University in Villanova, PA and now is Foreign Currency trader for Credit Agricole in New York City.





• Pat Van Wagner

  Board Member

  Pat Van Wagner resides in Monmouth Beach, NJ with his wife Jacki and their three children, Garrett, Leighton and Wyatt. Pat was born and raised in Monmouth County and is a graduate of University of Delaware in Newark, DE.  Pat is currently a product manager for Bloomberg L.P. in New York City.

• Doug Wells

  Board Member

  Doug Wells resides in Monmouth Beach, NJ with his wife Kim and their daughter Raquel.  Doug was born and raised in Teaneck, NJ .  Doug is currently the general manager for Ray Catena Mercedes in Edison, NJ as well as an active member in many local charities.





• Scott Madalone

  Board Member

  Scott Madalone resides in Monmouth Beach, NJ with his wife Nicole and their four children, Ryan, Tyler, Sam and Jack.  Scott was born and raised in Monmouth County and attended Brookdale Community College and has an associate’s degree in Business Management. Scott is currently General Manager of his family’s business, Premier Graphics in Atlantic Highlands, NJ.

• John Ferone

  Board Member

  John Ferone resides in Monmouth Beach with his wife Meghan. He graduated from Mount Saint Mary's University and is now National Specialty Sales Manager with Henry Schein Dental.





• Darren Spadavecchia

  Board Member

  Darren Spadavecchia resides in Monmouth Beach with his wife Koren and their three children, Victoria, Taylor and Teddy. Darren was born and raised in Monmouth County NJ and attended the University of Susquehanna of Selinsgrove, PA. He has a BS in Business Administration and a Masters in Education. He is currently a Special Education Teacher and head Soccer and Tennis coach at Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls, NJ.

• Homeira Walter

  Treasurer

  Homeira Walter was educated solely in the United Kingdom and began her professional career with the BBC London and then CNBC in the U.S. She then went on to an extensive career with Bloomberg, L.P. in New York and retired in 1999 to begin her family. Since then, she has become very active in her community and has served on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations. Homeira currently runs a small interior design business from her home.
