6th Annual Monmouth Beach Turkey Bowl - November 22, 2012

Are you ready for some football?!
Okay boys its fall and November is fast approaching. That means it is time to dust off the cleats, stretch out the hammies and brush up on your trash-talking because it’s time for the 6th Annual Monmouth Beach Turkey Bowl!!! A lot has happened with our "little" event since last year and I want to bring you up to speed but I first want to give everyone a recap of what we have accomplished to date.
As we all know OUR game is only 6 years young and it has made a ridiculous impact on our community while at the same time provided us a great way to start the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Last year's event was by far our finest. We had over 85 players across 6 teams. Like the NY Giants of 2007 and 2012, the wild-card team of Occupy Bar Stool won three consecutive road games to take the coveted trophy!! In the end the event raised over $18,500 for the Family and Children Services of Monmouth County and collected over 500 lbs. of food for the Food Bank of Monmouth County. Funds were raised via contributions from team members, corporate sponsorships and local donations from the sidelines. We guaranteed that local families in need had a better holiday because of YOUR contributions! Truly amazing!
In addition to the funds raised for those less fortunate, we once again showed our community how to truly throw a tailgate. We had over 200 "non-players" join the party and root on the teams from the side-lines. The pro-bono tail-gate run by the player’s wives was amazing and we expect this year's party to be even bigger!
So now onto what transpired in the off-season. In an attempt to honor the generosity and spirit of this event and, more importantly, YOUR efforts, we decided to officially recognize this group. I would like to welcome each and every one of you to the SHORE TO HELP, Inc. Our new foundation which is a registered 501(c)(3) charity!! Formally organizing our group as an official charity is not something we take lightly but given the tradition YOU have helped build we thought it was the right thing to do. So what does this mean to us and our event?
As far as the game goes and your participation nothing has changed. The primary purpose is for everyone to participate by playing in the game, cheering on the sidelines, etc. That is what makes this whole group special. Now being organized as a charity does have some benefits that we want to list:
1.) As a registered 501(c)(3), all donations (personal and corporate) are fully tax deductible. This will be helpful in raising funds, especially from corporations!
2.) We can choose to distribute the funds to multiple organizations and groups. This means we can help more local families in need.
3.) Our organization, SHORE TO HELP, INC, will have ZERO administration costs so all funds raised will be distributed directly to families and organizations of our choosing!
We are in the process of designing our new web site. We hope to have it up and running the first week in November. Please check us out at www.shore-to-help.org in the coming weeks.
Lastly, I know how difficult times are these days and many of us don't have extra cash. Please don't let that stop you from playing, coming to the game and enjoying the tailgate. What makes this event better year after year is the people!
In closing I want to thank each and every one of you for making the 4th Thursday in November truly one of the best days of the year!! Please keep on the look-out for an email with a calendar of this year's event.
